5 Steps To Prevent Mascara Clumps by Amanda Lyttle (Guest Post)

Mascara is one of the most important of your makeup tools. You can make your eyes look bigger with the right application but store it properly to avoid clumps. Follow the tips given below to prevent your mascara from clumping.

1.              Clean the mascara wand - Clean the mascara wand with cotton cloth dipped in make up remover. The bristles of the wand should be clean and there should be no dry lumps of mascara on it. Rinse it under running water and dry it with a piece of cotton cloth.
2.              Clean the mascara tube – Wipe the mascara tube of all remnants of mascara using a piece of clean cotton cloth dipped in make up remover. This will ensure that the tube is sealed properly when you close it.
3.              Clean the mascara wand Cap – Use the cotton cloth dipped in makeup remover to clean the cap of any mascara.
4.              Close the tube properly – Many times, the mascara lumps because the tube is not closed properly after you use it. When the mascara comes into contact with air, it forms clumps. Therefore, close the tube properly.
5.              Swirl the Wand – The tube should not be moved up and down to coat the wand with mascara. The right way to do it is to swirl the wand inside the tube. Shaking the tube well dries up parts of the cosmetic causing it to form lumps.

Clean the mascara wand and brush properly and it will last for a long time. In the end, do not forget to buy a good mascara for yourself, preferably a waterproof one that does not make you look like a black cascading mess in summers. Mascaras from Maybelline cosmetics are usually known for their great texture and non-smudge qualities.

Thanks for reading and thank you again Amanda,

I feel like it's wasting product, but whenever I apply mascara I wipe it with a paper towel before I sweep it on. I tried washing a mascara brush once (rubber) and ended up bending one of the little...finger..doodles. I'll definitely try makeup remover next time.

Thankfully I've had luck avoiding mascara clumps just with good mascaras (Maybelline!). Great tips though, will definitely remember them if I run into trouble in the future!
