Ulta Beauty Store in La Jolla, CA

I have lived in SoCal for over a year now and it was not until I began blogging and became more engrossed into the beauty world that I learned about Ulta Beauty Store.  For those of you not familiar with the store, it is like a Sephora here in the States.  The only difference is that Ulta does not carry as much high end brands.  Although, they do sell drugstore brands and has a mini hair salon.  I took a few pictures inside of the store.

Today my husband offered to take me to check out the store today.  I was really excited since it was my first time ever.  He was such a sweetheart and watched our daughter outside while mommy went in to play with makeup!  I had to use my iPhone camera because I left my camera charger and cables back in HI.  Also, I wish I could have taken better pictures but I was not sure if pictures were allowed so I had to be a ninja so I would not get caught.

One out of their two entrances

I love the affordable prices of their makeup brand.

The many drugstore brands they carry.  However, I admit that it is cheaper to buy at Walmart/Target/etc.

Aveno

L'Oreal

Neutrogena

Physician's Formula

Maybelline

Essence

A few of their higher end brands they carry..
Lorac

Napoleon

Two Faced

Urban Decay

Purminerals

Fusion Beauty

Studio Gear

Elizabeth Arden

 Fragrances

Other random pictures

Just like Sephora they also have a rewards card.  However, Ulta actually lists what you could get depending on how many points you offer.

If I ever get to 7500, I'll definitely try out their hair cut and highlights!

You are probably wondering if I bought anything and the answer is "yes, I did!"   But none of the items I bought were for me.  They were strictly for my upcoming giveaway.  I spent over $50.  You will soon see what goodies I bought.

Have you visited an Ulta Beauty store?  If so, how did you like it?  Do you prefer Sephora or Ulta?

Thanks for reading,

ahhhhhh we have one in Burbank but too far. I went there once. It has tons of items but not those like Nars, etc

girl, I love Ulta..They dont sell Nars :( but I do use their coupons they send me in the mail every month. they also have really good sales too

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you..except that I'd never stepped foot in a Sephora either, not before I started beauty blogging anyway. I am partial to Ulta because the ladies were a lot friendlier to me. Sephora SA's always intimidate me somehow.

I wish we had an ulta here ;[

So huge! I wish we had one here. Hihi

I like them both for different things I have an Ulta 5 mins away and a Sephora about 6mins away so I get in a lot of trouble ;)

Yay I'm glad you finally got a chance to check out Ulta! I think their rewards are a LOT better than Sephora since Sephora only gives you measly samples, but with Ulta you can actually get good stuff. And they always have coupons! I usually stop by often to spend my monthly coupons on polishes and whatnot. Did you pickup anything from Essence? I really love their polishes, definitely comparable to more expensive brands, and they're only .99 each!

It's so hard to stay focused in Ulta because of the endless options! I'm glad you finally got to check it out, looks like you enjoyed it!

ahhhhhhhhhhh its like heaven! (':

That looks like a nice Ulta =) I like how Ulta has coupons from time to time, unlike Sephora who pretty much never has any lol.

I actually worked in an Ulta for a couple weeks helping them set up a new store they were opening...it is so not easy trying to stock all those products! haha

I'm sure you'll get 7500 points in no time! hehehe

I LOVE ULTA :D seriously. They sell the best makeup, and it's really inexepensive :]. Shopping at Sephora kind of makes me sad because everything is so pricey... :(

D.Sadie said...

I love ULTA too!

I have visited both during my last trip to the USA (I live in the Netherlands) And I love both really. And even though Sephora looks more high-end, and sleek I do think Ulta still is very inviting and has some nice things for sale :)

It looks great! :) I want to try essence

I frequent their location in Tustin, CA where I also get my hair done. Let me tell you it's totally worth it to get your hair done there, the girls love working there so you'll be sure to get great hair results. I also managed to hit over the 7500 point mark (I think I got to <9000 points) mainly from doing my hair there, so I managed to get the UD Naked palette for free! Highly recommend doing anything at Ulta!

o0o coupons?! I can't wait to get some in the mail. =D

D.Sadie said...

Oh yeah! Now that you mention it there was no Nars. I didn't even notice that. >.<

D.Sadie said...

Aww really? The Sephora ppl always seemed nice to me.

D.Sadie said...

I know right! Lol. You should check it out. They didn't really "let" me take pictures. I did took some w/o them noticing it. =P

D.Sadie said...

I know right! But I wouldn't be surprised if Hawaii gets one eventually. All the mainland stores seems to be slowly coming over to the islands.

D.Sadie said...

Yes you do! Lol.

D.Sadie said...

Aww, maybe one day?

D.Sadie said...

Lucky!! Where do you live? Ulta and Sephora both seems to be about 20 min away from me. Lol.

D.Sadie said...

I know right! I can't wait to get enough points to redeem my prizes! =D I still can't believe they offer hair cuts as prizes. And yes, ma'am. I got a few things from Essence. It's my first time seeing that brand. Unfortunately I won't be able to try out their things firsthand since the items I bought are for my giveaway. Lol.

D.Sadie said...

Lol. I know what you mean!

D.Sadie said...

It definitely is.

D.Sadie said...

I know right! If only Sephora had coupons. Oh wells.

D.Sadie said...

LOL! Hopefully.

D.Sadie said...

I know what you mean. I rarely buy things from Sephora, but at Ulta I had no problem buying a few items.

D.Sadie said...

It's so amazing! I wish I knew about Ulta sooner.

D.Sadie said...

I agree! Ulta had becoming one of my favorite beauty stores.

D.Sadie said...

It does! Maybe if you win my next giveaway, you could try an essence product. ;)

D.Sadie said...

Nice! I'm in San Diego.

D.Sadie said...

Say what?!?! That's amazing! You're making me want to do that too now. Lol. How much are their hair cuts? I'm due for one soon.

Am such An ulta- ho..lol i cannot even walk by one without buying something.. i love their rewards program, its easier to get points here as compared to some other Beauty stores..*cough* Sephora *cough*.. although i love sephora, the beauty rewards are kinda disappointing, for every 100 dollars you spend, you get a measly sample.. here in ULTA, once you spend 250 dollars, you get a great haircut.. i got two haircuts so far and i am so happy with it!

Awesome! I dont;t go to Ula very often because its so far from my house!

D.Sadie said...

Oh I LOVE Ulta! I have one about 5 minutes from my house, so it's super convenient!!

D.Sadie said...

I think it's around $45 for a haircut, depending on if you get a master or junior stylist and also the length of your hair.
I think the main reason why the stylists love working there is because the company makes it easy for them to work and get paid and they get to be around the products they love. I always overhear the girls talking about how it makes them love their job more! :D

I love ULTA....I found these amazing lashes there by Eyelure. They are now my favorite lashes!

D.Sadie said...

I prefer Ulta only because they sell Hair dyes XD I'm a sucker for hair dyes. Plus they're much cheaper too. Sephora is too pricey for me and it's also farther away from my house, Ulta on the other hand is only like 5 minutes away.
